Elements and Principles of Design

Martin PuryearMétissage / Camouflage2016

This piece is and example of shape and contrast. It is an of shape because it is made up of abstract shapes. It is an example of contrast because there is a very strong contrast between the black shapes and the white background. It also displays asymmetrical balance because it is not symmetrical.

Richard WoodsFor my Dad from Alan Cristea Gallery Twentieth Anniversary Portfolio2015

This piece is and example of line and rhythm. It is and example of line because it shows vertical, horizontal, and curved lines. it is an example of rhythm because it repeats the tall rectangles across the whole piece. also, it repeats the circles throughout the piece. it is an example of asymmetrical balance. this is because it is no symmetrical.

David HominalUntitled2014

This piece displays color and movement. It shows color because it uses three main color but when the are combined, they make many different variations and hues of the colors. It shows movement because the way the lines are painted in circles and zig-zags make you eye move around and across the piece. it is an example of asymmetrical balance because it is not symmetrical.

Bruce La BrucePierrot Lunaire2014

This piece is an example of value and unity. it shows value because there is a variety of shadows throughout the piece. this brings many different values. it is and example of unity because each area of the piece is harmony. the cluttered table adds variety. this is an example of asymmetrical balance.

Steffani JemisonPersonal2014

This piece displays space and emphasis. It displays space because the people in the picture are spaced out and that is obvious because they are at higher and lower places on the picture. This also displays emphasis because the blurry people bring emphasis to the people who are in focus. This is also an                                                                             example of asymmetrical balance because it                                                                             is different of either side.

2014

This is an example of form and pattern. It is an example of form because it is a 3D figure that takes up space and that is obvious in the picture. it is and example of pattern because the whole sculpture is covered in the same pattern. If this scuplture was facing all the way forward, it would be an example of symmetrical balance, but the picture shows asymmetrical balance.

Rebecca MillerMaggie’s Plan2015

This picture displays balance and texture. It displays almost symmetrical balance because the figures of both sides are in similar positions and look almost mirrored. This also displays texture because there is texture in their clothes and their hair. in real life, they would have physical texture, but in the picture they have visual texture because you can't feel it but can infer that they have                                                                              physical texture.
