- Can you see any symbols in their work?

Pinterest Board Self Portraits

  • Jun Ahn
  • Rocio De Alba
  • Philip Toledano
  • Susan Swihart
  • Gerhard Clausing
  • Walker Evans
  • Berenice Abbott
  • Claude Cahun
  • Andy Warhol
  • Richard Avedon

Many of these photographs are either in black and white, or they have high contrast. I like those qualities. I also like bright, busy photos, as seen by Jun Ahun.

These artists are showing important pieces of themselves to the world. Claude Cahun uses makeup and costumes to shows different sides of herself. Philip Toledano uses special effect makeup to mimic the looks of plastic surgery, this shows the beauty, yet also the morbidity and complexity he sees in people with plastic surgery

Andy Warhol uses strong symbolism. he uses props such as wigs and skulls to show his identity, Claude Cahun uses hanging head and such things in her photography.
